McCool Posted February 16, 2018 Report Share Posted February 16, 2018 "Sir Thomas Slade - Surveyor to the Navy in the 1700s and designer of a very famous ship" Ein Artikel in einer Lokalzeitung über die Beziehungen Sir Thomas Slades zu Ipswich. Er beaufsichtigte dort in den 1740ern den Bau des 50-Kanonen-Schiffs Hampshire auf der Werft von John Bernard. Ein Gemälde von John Cleveley zeigt die von Bernard gebauten Schiffe auf dem Fluß Orwell, darunter das Bomb Vessel Granado; das Schiff am jenseitigen Ufer, das zum Stapellauf bereit scheint, ist vermutlich die Hampshire. Slade verheiratete sich 1747 mit in Ipswich mit einer Hannah Moore.
